CityMash.com - With all of the bright lights, snow-capped mountains and chilly weather perfect for cuddling, winter is one of the best seasons for romantic dates.
Bundle up in your scarves and mitts, grab a cup of cocoa, and spend some time with your loved one in Vancouver’s top winter date spots:
Skating at Robson Square
From December 1 to February 14 you can glide across the ice hand in hand with your partner in the centre of downtown Vancouver at Robson Square. This free outdoor skating rental is a popular place on Vancouver winter nights so expect lots of crowds and a line up for the $4 skate rentals. But if you manage to find your way onto the ice, you’ll be sure to enjoy the festive music, bright lights and watching other couples artfully perform spins or take tumbles across the slippery surface.
Visit the Vancouver Christmas Market
This year the Vancouver Christmas Market took its carousel and craft vendors and moved them over to the Jack Poole Plaza for more space and a beautiful view over the water. Stop by the market to enjoy traditional European food, get your Christmas shopping done at the artisan stands and split a cup of apple cider with your sweetie while you go for a spin on Vancouver’s only Christmas carousel.
All of the lights!
Vancouver is in no short supply when it comes to beautiful places covered in twinkling Christmas lights. On the North Shore we have Canyon Lights at the Capilano Suspension Bridge where you can take part in an interactive light display and see the world’s tallest living Christmas tree. Back on the Vancouver side, there’s the Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Gardens, the Bright Nights Christmas Train in Stanley Park and the newly opened Enchant Christmas Light Maze and Market. Nothing says romantic better than a night spent under the Christmas lights.
Head to the mountains
For a Vancouver couple who is all about the great outdoors, enjoy our winter wonderland up on the mountains. From sleigh rides on Grouse Mountain and tubing down Mount Seymour to old fashioned skiing and snowboarding, there’s something for every snow bunny on Vancouver’s high peaks.
Celebrate Christmas at Flyover Canada
If you love winter but the cold weather has you down, try experiencing the season with a 4D ride to Santa’s Workshop courtesy of Flyover Canada. As long as moving rides don’t move your stomach contents, this is the perfect way to witness Christmas magic without having to wear a coat.
Watch a Christmas classic
For arts lovers, Vancouver offers up some great Christmas shows every winter. Enjoy stunning ballet in The Nutcracker at the Queen Elizabeth or something less traditional with Vancouver TheatreSports League’s Christmas Queen 3 Bachelorette Edition. For more holiday theatre options, check out the Arts Club productions of Avenue Q, Mary Poppins and The Day Before Christmas.
