The Best of Vancouver – Dec 25-31, 2016

Posted on January 1, 2017 - Welcome to The Best of Vancouver! This is where we round up Vancouver’s hottest events, yummiest dishes, tastiest drinks, top looks, greatest photos and cutest pets of the week. Check out all the best stuff happening in Vancouver for the week of December 25th to 31st – the final week of 2016!

Concords NYE Vancouver

We can’t talk about the last week of the year without bringing up New Year’s Eve! Despite the last minute snow dump, Concords NYE Vancouver went ahead as scheduled and lit up the Vancouver skyline with fireworks to ring in 2017. Did you make it down to Canada Place to watch the fireworks?

Boxing Day shopping

On December 26th, Vancouver was all about Boxing Day and getting the best deals on everything that didn’t get ticked off of our Christmas wishlists. Lucky for Vancouverites, most of these awesome sales last all week long. So we’ve had plenty of time to shop until we drop right into the next year!

Contact Winter Music Festival

On December 26th and 27th, Vancouver hosted the annual Contact Winter Music Festival at BC Place. The two day music festival welcomed thousands of fans who danced along to artists such as Flume and Disclosure. Some people like to put on their pajamas and lie in bed after the holidays, and other people like to go out and party.

Fanny Bay Oysters

While the weather outside might be frightful, happy hour oysters are always delightful! Head to Fanny Bay Oysters for a shucking good time with $1 Happy Hour oysters fresh from BC’s own Fanny Bay. It doesn’t get much better than delicious local seafood at bargain prices.

Sura Korean BBQ

It might not be traditional Christmas fare but we love the idea of getting together with family and friends over a delicious table of Korean BBQ. Check out Sura Korean BBQ in Richmond for a chance to cook your own meat on a tabletop grill with lots of kimchi and other fix-ins on the side. Now you’ve got us drooling!

Beta5 Chocolates

How cute is this snowman? He’s one of many delicious festive treats found all around Vancouver. We love the snowman cream puff dessert and other holiday treats from Beta5 like peppermint crunch, spiced praline pecans or Douglas Fir eclair.

Fondway Cafe

How cool are these iced drinks from Fondway Cafe in Burnaby? Sure, it’s pretty cold outside, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a cold drink inside. Especially when that drink comes in an awesome glass and can be accompanied by delicious Asian pastries. If you’re feeling more adventurous, we recommend the Grass Jelly Milk Tea.

Basho Cafe and Sweets

Matcha has been all the rage across Vancouver in 2016. And it doesn’t look like the trend will be slowing down any time soon! Head to Basho, a family-run Japanese cafe, for a taste of the good stuff, tasty Japanese treats or another caffeinated beverage. Nothing warms up better than a good matcha latte!

Nightingale Restaurant

After a week full of presents, family dinners and shopping, it would be hard to find a Vancouverite who could pass up a hard stiff drink. How pretty is this cocktail from Nightingale? Make sure to stop by next time you’re downtown and craving something strong from the bar or delicious and modern Canadian cuisine.

Look by Carte Blanche Boutique

We’re loving how Vancouver fashionistas always find a way to look great even when the week is full of snow and slush. And we really love how Carte Blanche Boutique can make an all grey ensemble still sparkle. If anyone is asking, we’ll take a pair of those boots!

Listen up Vancouver men! There is a way to look stylish through the cold and grey days of winter. Take a tip from jonathanho1 who models great fit, stylish accessories and a pop of colour. We’re really loving the burgundy boots and long blue coat that make the fashion forward look perfect for a chilly Vancouver winter day.

Look by Bella & Wren

A little outside of Vancouver, Bella & Wren in Fort Langley is a boutique that mixes California style with Vancouver designs. All of the pieces are hand picked from a selection of up and coming designers. We are loving the idea of wrapping up in one of these warm sweaters and keeping out the chill for the rest of Vancouver’s winter.

It doesn’t get much better than a beautiful shiny Christmas tree in the middle of downtown Vancouver, does it? Robson Square sure knows how to do Christmas right. And would you look at that? It seems like we got a bit of that White Christmas we were looking for after all.

Merry Christmas to you and yours! ?? // Photo: @joshuaarrgh

Speaking of a White Christmas, check out the snow on Mt. Seymour! All of Vancouver’s mountains have received a beautiful snowfall – just what they asked for this Christmas! Take advantage of the perfect slopes and head up to Seymour, Grouse or Cypress for a day of skiing, snowboarding or just relaxing by a big fireplace.

Typical Vancouver: all of the winter lights accompanied by all of the rain. Despite getting some snow this week, it was back to the wet stuff for most of Vancouver. We guess it only makes sense for us to end 2016 with some more precipitation after the very wet fall and snowy winter we’ve had.

How cute is this little guy? And would you check out that bow tie? We would’ve been thrilled to find a Miles under our Christmas tree this year. Maybe next year! Happy 1st Christmas, Miles!

Look at this beautiful Australian Shepherd enjoying a snowy Vancouver winter! While the rest of us are cowering indoors and trying to avoid shovel duty, Wallace is bounding through the piles of snow and living his best life. Enjoy the snow while it lasts, Wallace!

Meet Meatball, the cat who is making the most out of this holiday season. We love that Meatball is really working for his share of the Christmas leftovers. Everyone deserves a little roast beef, right? Bring on more hilarious kitchen antics, Meatball!
