CityMash.com - Good news for BC musicians! The BC music industry has received an additional $3.8 million in funding to support three important projects. British Columbia is currently home to 80 independent record labels, 123 recording studios and over 6400 music artists.
The majority of the money, $2.5 million, is in support of the province’s Live Music Program. BC music festivals, live music venues and event producers are able to apply for funding in order to increase the number of live music events held across British Columbia.
The Industry Initiatives Program is set to receive $1 million. These funds will be used to support music industry events and activities like conferences and marketing.
The remaining $300,000 is set for the Research Program. This program is responsible for increasing knowledge of the industry in order to grow the BC music sector. Funding will support research on economic impacts, development of new products, consumer research and export opportunities.
The BC Music Fund also announced plans to launch seven programs in the new year to further increase the prowess of our music industry. Programs receiving support include Sound Recording, Careers of BC Artists, Music Company Development and Innovation. The BC Music Fund will be hosting seven public outreach meetings across the province in the new year to introduce these programs and connect with music industry partners.
