Did You Get to Skate on Trout Lake?

Posted on January 9, 2017

CityMash.com - For the first time in over 20 years, Trout Lake was open for skating. The East Vancouver lake was opened on Thursday, January 5th after the Park Board deemed the 5 inch thick ice safe enough to skate on.

Unfortunately, by Sunday Trout Lake was closed to skaters. Officials said the closure was due to warmer temperatures and heavy usage making the ice unsafe. However, they plan to reassess the ice in coming weeks and hope to open Trout Lake to local skaters once again.

Those who got in on the few days of outdoor skating had a blast. Trout Lake was covered in seasoned skaters, amateur hockey players and a few newbies who were brave enough to take to the outdoor rink. Check out some photos of the ice-cold fun below and cross your fingers that Trout Lake is safe to skate on again soon! We might as well enjoy a rare cold and snow-covered Vancouver winter by taking part in a popular Canadian winter pastime.

Thousands of people skating on #TroutLake today! Come on out and join the numerous hockey games on the ice 🙂
