CityMash.com - The New York Times has chosen Canada as their #1 destination for travellers in 2017. Despite only being a quick border hop away, Canada is still a huge draw for American tourists. And 2017 is definitely the year to visit as we’ll be celebrating our 150th birthday! All across Canada, cities and towns have festivities planned, including a big bash on July 1st in our capital city, Ottawa. Parks Canada is also getting in on the celebrations by offering free access to all of the national parks all year long.
The New York Times explains their choice by touting Canada’s vast landscape that is home to both metropolitan cities and natural wonders – like our beautiful Vancouver, an urban city in the middle of a natural playground of mountains and ocean. They also use the strong American dollar as an incentive for US travellers to get more bang for their buck when visiting their neighbour to the north.
Following Canada’s winning spot and rounding out the top five places to visit are Atacama Desert (Chile), Agra (India), Zermatt (Switzerland) and Botswana.
