Your Guide to Vancouver’s Hot Chocolate Festival

Posted on January 16, 2017 - The annual Hot Chocolate Festival is happening in Vancouver from January 19th until February 14th. It’s the perfect way to beat the winter blues and enjoy a sweet treat leading up to Valentine’s Day. Over the 27 day festival, 29 participating restaurants will serve up their own unique spins on hot chocolate.

Check out everything you need to know to make the most of Vancouver’s Hot Chocolate Festival:

It’s for a good cause

Organizers say, “This festival is a fundraiser for the Downtown Eastside Women’s Job Training Program of the PHS Community Services Society and East Van Roasters.” Now you can feel better about indulging in one, two or even three hot chocolate concoctions a day because you’re helping to support a good cause!

There are 61 flavours of hot chocolate

The 29 participating restaurants will feature 61 different hot chocolate flavours in total. Here are some we can’t wait to get our hands on:

  • Deep In The Heart Of Texas by Bella Gelateria: One of seven amazing flavours from Bella Gelateria, this drink features roasted Texas pecans, 58% dark chocolate from France and Vancouver Island Sea Salt.
  • Drunken Love by Chocolate Arts: The hot chocolate is really just the accessory to this dish – red wine ice cream with a red wine reduction poured over top.
  • Spice Hot Chocolate by Earnest Ice Cream: This vegan option begins with a scoop of Earnest’s famous chai tea ice cream drenched in hot chocolate.
  • A Matcha Made In Heaven by Terra Breads: White chocolate, vanilla matcha and a matcha shortbread cookie on the side. The perfect “matcha” indeed!
  • Haaselnuss by Thomas Haas: Milk hot chocolate with caramelized hazelnuts and lemon zest. Yum!

You could win the Hot Chocolate Fest Contest

You could win the Hot Chocolate Festival Twitter contest by sharing a photo of yourself indulging in one of the sweet treats. After a random draw, the winning Tweeter will receive gift certificates from 20 participating restaurants, totaling over $500. Second prize will receive gift certificates for three restaurants with a value of approximately $75.

There will also be an additional contest on Facebook and Instagram where the most popular photo will earn its taker a Festival Pass for the 2018 Hot Chocolate Festival. What’s a Festival Pass? It means free hot chocolate at all participating locations!

This is the festival’s 7th year

Presented by CityFood Magazine, the Hot Chocolate Festival originated in 2011 as the first citywide festival of its kind. The mission of the festival is to make hot chocolate even hotter with the motto of “Chocolate makes you happy!” Well, we can’t argue with that.
