7 Things to Do in Vancouver this Weekend – Jan 20-22, 2017

Our city is always bursting with new events, festivals and shows. From restaurant openings and music concerts to movie marathons and comedy acts, Vancouver has it all. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, check out our selection of seven of the coolest events around town. You won’t want to miss any of these!

Dine Out Vancouver

Tourism Vancouver’s Dine Out Vancouver Festival officially kicks off on January 20th going until February 5th. Act fast if you want to snag a reservation at one of the popular participating restaurants serving up three course meals for $20, $30 or $40. Besides awesome restaurants, Dine Out also features a number of culinary events. From January 23-29, check out Street Food City. 27 famous Vancouver food trucks will descend on Robson Square so hungry customers can enjoy the best in street food. PuSh International Performing Arts Festival

From January 16 – February 5, the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival will be bringing groundbreaking performances to the stages of Vancouver for the 13th year running. Check out the calendar of events to see what’s playing and enjoy performances such as Macbeth by South Africa’s Third World Bunfight or workshops like the Choreography Lab.

Harry Potter and Chill?

The Rio Theatre is holding a Potterthon this weekend for Muggles and magical folk alike. On Saturday, they’ll show the first four movies and on Sunday they’ll screen the remaining four. Fans are encouraged to buy passes for the entire weekend and to show up in costume. Rio Theatre promises that in addition to screening all eight movies, there will also be trivia, costume contests, drink specials and magical surprises. Accio popcorn!

Kits Wedding Show

After a busy Christmas engagement season, wedding planning is in full swing. If you’re an urban couple planning a wedding on a budget, the Kits Wedding Show is for you. Head to the Kits House Community Hall on Saturday, January 21st to meet with local vendors and scope out a potential wedding venue. There’s also a door prize, worth over $2250, to be won so fingers crossed your luck in love extends to contests too!

Vancouverite: A Comedy Show

Join hosts Brent Constantine and Amber Harper-Young on Saturday night as they welcome Vancouver’s best comedians to share their stories about adjusting to life in VanCity in Vancouverite: A Comedy Show. Guests for this month’s show include Emma Cooper, Katie Burrell, Gavin Matts and Aaron Read. Get ready for lots of laughs over relatable Vancouver living stories.

Hot Chocolate Festival

Vancouver’s Hot Chocolate Festival will be happening in participating cafes across the city from January 19 to February 14. The Festival challenges baristas to upgrade the classic hot chocolate by adding inventive ingredients and new flavours, and pairing drinks with delicious pastries and other complimentary snacks. Women’s March

On Saturday, January 21st join millions of people around the world as they march in solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington. Vancouver’s Women’s March will begin with speeches at 10:00 AM at Jack Poole Plaza. From there, the group will march throughout the streets of downtown Vancouver. The organizers explain, “We will rally together in solidarity, equality, diversity and inclusion. We will mobilize as women and supporters of women to protect rights and civil liberties.” Now that’s a message we can get behind!
