Pop My Cork! It’s Time for the Vancouver International Wine Festival

Posted on February 3, 2017

CityMash.com - Corks will be popping around Vancouver this month as the city hosts the 39th annual Vancouver International Wine Festival. This year’s festival, running from February 11th to February 19th)  is especially fabulous because the featured country this year is Canada.

Over 180 wineries from 16 countries will converge on our beautiful city to showcase their 775+ wines at 55 events open to the public. Trade tastings will host an additional 170 wines.

International Festival Tasting

The International Festival Tastings are the signature events of the festival and run from 7 pm to 10 pm on Thursday 16th to Saturday 18th, with an additional matinee from 2:30 pm – 5 pm on the 18th. The tasting room will feature Regional Tasting Stations from Australia, British Columbia, New Zealand, Nova Scotia and Spain as well as many wine and food-related exhibitors.

These tastings are at the centre of the festival and provide visitors with the chance to meet the principals of all of the wineries participating in the festival. For the quietest visit to the tasting room, you should attend on Thursday as there is a guaranteed, 30% lower attendance than Friday and Saturday giving you more space and more time to spend with the producers of your favourite wines. The ticket prices are also slightly lower, so you get more for less!

25 under $25 – Event

Discover a fabulous selection of 25  wines from around the world (all available in the local marketplace)that will set you back no more than $25 a bottle. Set against the spectacular backdrop of Coal Harbour and the North Shore mountains this festival favourite will take place straight after the Saturday Tasting Room Matinee and is the perfect place to taste and mingle.

Wine buying made easy

Stocks for some wines may be very limited so you should buy them straight away and store them at the bottle check. Simply pick-up all of your bottles at the end of the tasting session or, if you live in BC you can have them delivered to your nearest BC liquor store, so there is no excuse not to snap up any wines that tickle your palate.
