CityMash.com - What’s up, Vancouver?
March is officially here! And with that, we’d like to finally say goodbye to this wet and cold winter. Is it over yet? Can we pack our parkas away? We certainly hope so!
The city of Vancouver is bursting with events for the first weekend of March. We’ve got comedy, music, dance, sports and so much more. Check out 12 of the coolest things happening in our city this weekend:
Get your groove on at a dance festival
From March 1-25, the Vancouver International Dance Festival will be pirouetting and sashaying in venues across the city. The festival hopes to show off the best in diverse contemporary dance styles. This weekend also marks the end of the Coastal First Nations Dance Festival, a celebration of the stories, songs, and dances of the Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast of North America.
Sing along to a funny musical
If you love music and comedy, you’re in luck! Vancouver is hosting two hilarious musicals this weekend. Elbow Room Cafe: The Musical is based on everyone’s favourite crabby eastside breakfast joint. The show runs from March 1-12. Also this weekend, catch Off Key: An Improvised Disney Musical to laugh out loud at the sweet Disney memories of your childhood.
Laugh with Jim Jeffries
Controversial comedian Jim Jeffries will be in Vancouver on March 3rd as part of his Unusual Punishment tour. The Australian funnyman will also be travelling to Winnipeg, Calgary and Ottawa on the Canadian leg of his tour.
Listen up at the Vancouver Ukulele Festival
Does it get more Vancouver than a ukulele festival? We didn’t think so. The festival happening on March 3 will feature performances by famous ukulele players from Canada and the United States. The night will end with a group jam so attendees are encouraged to bring their own ukuleles and join in.
Get adventurous at the Vancouver Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show
The Vancouver Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show is coming to the Vancouver Convention Centre this weekend. Get deals on all of your outdoor gear and start planning your next big trip. Where will your next great adventure take you?
Get smart with TEDxStanleyPark

Fan over Brody Jenner at Caprice Nightclub
All of your teenage dreams are about to come true: Brody Jenner will be hosting/DJ-ing at Caprice Nightclub on Friday night. Brody Jenner was the bad boy on MTV reality shows Laguna Beach and The Hills. He also makes a few appearances on Keeping Up With The Kardashians as he is stepbrother to the Kardashian clan.
En francais at the Festival du Bois
This weekend marks the 28th annual Festival du Bois, the largest celebration of francophone and French Canadian culture in British Columbia. Expect live music, dance performances, traditional food (like poutine!) and special activities for the kids.

Walk in Her Shoes Challenge 2017
This Sunday, join Care Canada on their mission to empower girls and women with the Walk in Her Shoes Challenge. In many countries around the world, girls walk over 10,000 steps a day to get food and water, sacrificing their education in the process. Take 10,000 steps this weekend because Care believes, “a future without poverty is within walking distance.”
VASS Cup
This Saturday join Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports on Grouse Mountain for the 2017 VASS Cup. Take part in a ski/snowboard race or a game of sledge hockey while helping VASS reach their goal of raising $60,000 to fund local snow sport programs for people with disabilities.
Now that is a fully packed weekend! What are you getting up to for the first weekend of March?
