8 Cool Workouts You Should Try

Posted on May 4, 2017

CityMash.com - Vancouver, it’s time to get fit!

Now that it seems like the snow is finally behind us and spring is just around the corner, it’s time to start working on our beach bods. Because before you know it, summer will be here and you’ll be getting calls to go out hiking, tan on the beach or stroll around town in shorts.

Get your body out of winter hibernation and start looking forward to a sunny Vancouver summer by working on your fitness. But don’t worry, it’s not all boring gyms or running outside in the rain. And you don’t even have to push your way to the front of a packed spin class or tight yoga studio. Because there are lots of cool new workouts happening around the city.

Check out eight of our favourite fitness classes where you won’t even realize you’re working out!

Mini-Tramp

Head to Seacity Fitness for a Mini-Tramp class where you get to bounce around to top 40 hits while enjoying a great waterfront view. During a class, you’ll get your cardio on while jumping on a personal sized trampoline and also have a chance to use the mini-tramp to do push-ups, crunches and planks.

Ballet Fit

Granville Street’s Ballet Lounge offers the coolest class in Ballet Fit. Imagine house music and fluorescent lights with ballet moves designed to tone your body – it’s the best of the clubs combined with the best of the ballet world. Work your core, improve your balance and nail that plié while rocking out to EDM beats.

Yoga Barre

If you’re a diehard yogi but want to spice things up, head to Body Balance for a Yoga Barre class that combines a barre workout with the yoga poses you know and love. There will be lots of focus on strengthening specific muscle groups and then transitioning into long fluid stretches.

Aerial Yoga

Here’s another for the yoga buffs: Aerial Yoga at Tantra Fitness. Aerial yoga is yoga meets acrobats. You know those impressive acrobatic routines they do in Cirque du Soleil? That could be you! Get your namaste on while suspended from the ceiling in a cloth loop. We can’t decide if this is going to be terrific or terrifying.

Parkour

Ever watch a Youtube video of parkour and get inspired to run, jump and leap your way through an urban obstacle course? Well, now is your chance. Sign up for beginner parkour lessons with Origins Parkour and learn how to see a wall as nothing more than a base for you to jump off.

Pole Dancing

Don’t act so shocked. Pole dancing is no longer a taboo topic; it’s a real workout! Believe us, a pole dancing class at AVA Fitness will leave you sweating, sore and a little more confident in your own sexuality. Enjoy getting fit and getting in touch with your inner vixen.

Lagree Fitness

The Lagree Fitness method is a total body workout focusing on cardio, strength, endurance, body composition and flexibility all at the same time. And how is that done? By exercising on the M3 Megaformer, a machine with a sliding platform that adds resistance to your every move. The M3 looks like it might have been a torture device in another life but Lagree devotees swear it’s a fitness game changer.

Pure Vibe

Pure Vibe is another fitness class that utilizes a special machine. But this time, instead of sliding and resisting, the Pure Vibe machine vibrates. You’ll do squats, lunges, planks and yoga poses all on a machine that works to stimulate your muscles through vibrations. The best part? The Pure Vibe workout is only 20 minutes but promises the benefits of an entire one hour workout.
